Malibu Goes Swiss - Angeleno Magazine
Clock watching suddenly got a lot more interesting in Malibu with the opening of Westime's fourth LA store, bringing some of the planets rarest time pieces to the village’s sandaled few.

In keeping with the understated ocean-chic of Malibu’s Country Mart, the store, done up in blues and whites, has an open, New England beach vibe making it even more disconcerting to see the dramatic treasures have been unfussily arranged behind the counter. The collection is the result of Westime’s founder, John Simonian’s storied “nose” for sniffing out the most exquisite watchmaking talents—both old and new- in Switzerland. Treasures include Frank Muller takes on the Art Deco Elgins, MB&F’s steampunkish contraptions, and a De Bethune wristwatch which will be delivered bedecked with the night sky from the place and time where you were born.

“There are only fifteen of these available in the world,” Ron Groezinger, one of Westime’s specialists says, pulling on black gloves to handle a massive piece of titanium jewelry that, up close is Jules Vernish concoction of delicate gears and dials. Viola the Audemars Piguet Tourbillon Offshore Chronometer. Price? $288,000—but then it only has to be self-wound once every ten days in case one gets too sedentary on Zuma.
